BOXING REPORTS Records 31 to 40 of 744

 Alexander Povetkin v Javier Mora

DATE: 3/13/2010

VENUE: Max Schmeling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany

PREDICTION: Alexander Povetkin

imagePovetkin is quickly becoming the most avoided man in the heavyweight division, he has fought 3 times since winning an IBF elimiator fight against Eddie Chambers in January 2008 but Chambers seems to have jumped above him and is fighting for the title next month. Povetkin was the 2004 Olympic gold medalist and is unbeaten as a pro at 18-0 with scalps such as Larry Donald, Chris Bryd and obviously Chambers on his record already. I am not convinced Povetkin is good enough to beat either of the Klitschko's but I think he will be the man that takes over when they retire. Mora hits hard but has lost when stepping up I would imagine Povetkin will get rid of him pretty quickly, I don't think this fight will last much longer than 3-4 rounds.

 Alexander Frenkel v Michael Simms

DATE: 3/13/2010

VENUE: Max Schmeling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany

PREDICTION: Alexander Frenkel

imageFrenkel is quickly establishing himself as one of the top guys in the division, he now faces a tough test in the form of Simms, Simms was a great amateur but has struggled in the professional ranks and not achieved the levels that many thought he would, he blows very hot and cold, he actually has the ability to be one of the best but he lacks dedication and rarely comes into fights in good shape, nevertheless he has never been stopped, and he always gives his opponents a tough fight no matter what shape he comes in, he was robbed against Yoan Pablo Hernandez and then again against Matt Godfrey recently, a whole lot depends on what condition Simms comes into the fight, the safe money is Frenkel winning on points but Simms has the ability to cause a shock and if he comes to win don't rule him out.

Alfonso Gomez v Jose Luis Castillo

DATE: 3/13/2010

VENUE: Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas, United States

PREDICTION: Jose Luis Castillo

imageThis is a really tough fight to call, in his day Castillo would have beaten Gomez with one hand tied behind his back, but he is a faded force, he has won his last 4 fights but hasn't looked the same level of fighter. Gomez is coming off a great win over Jesus Soto Karass, but he was exposed by Miguel Cotto not too long ago. I think this will be a decent fight I think Gomez has a chance of winning but should Castillo be able to perform 70% of his former self this should be his fight. I would go for a mid to late round stoppage for Castillo.

 John Duddy v Michael Medina

DATE: 3/13/2010

VENUE: Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas, United States

PREDICTION: John Duddy

imageA very interesting fight, Duddy lost out in a shock to Billy Lyell recently, but he has come back well and won a couple of decent fights since then, he now is stepping back into the firing line with a tough test against Medina. Medina has also lost when stepping up to fight Vanes Martirosyan and was outboxed for the whole fight. I don't think either of these guys are world class but it doesn't mean they will not be involved in exciting fights. It is a great match up and I think it could go either way, a lot depends on who turns up on the night, both these guys come in 100% expect fireworks. I think Duddy is the favourite to win but this could go either way.

 Krzysztof Bienias v Kell Brook

DATE: 3/12/2010

VENUE: Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom

PREDICTION: Kell Brook

imageBig step up in class for the unbeaten prospect Kell Brook, Bienias has won his last 17 fights and his only 2 losses have come to former world champions Junior Witter and world title challenger Oktay Urkal, Brook has looked great so far and has yet to be really pressed despite sharing the ring with some of the best domestic fighters. Both fighters will be looking to compete on the world scene with a win here, Bienias looking for a route back and Brook looking to get there. From what I have seen from Brook I have been impressed he has a few ajustments needed to enable him to bridge that gap to world level but he is progressing well and i think he will come through this challenge well, he may have to go the distance with the tough Bienias but I fancy the stoppage will come in the middle rounds.

 Paul Smith v Tony Dodson

DATE: 3/12/2010

TITLE: British Super Middleweight Title

VENUE: Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom

PREDICTION: Paul Smith

imageWhat should be a fairly routine defence for Smith, Smith is not as good as his record suggests he was rather fortunate to win last time out against Tony Quigley, Quigley stopped Dodson in their fight and I would be surprised if this fight goes any different to that, I think Smith will take over in the mid rounds and get a late stoppage or a decent win on the cards, Dodson has lost on the occassions he has stepped up in class and this should be no different.

 Samuel Peter v Nagy Aguilera

DATE: 3/12/2010

VENUE: Gaylord Hotel, Grapevine, Texas, United States

PREDICTION: Samuel Peter

imageAguilera is coming off the biggest win of his career against former WBC champion Oleg Maskaev, with a shocking first round KO, now he faces another former WBC champion Samuel Peter, Peter is a top heavyweight with his only losses coming to the Klitschko brothers and Eddie Chambers, this is a huge ask for the 23 year old Aguilera. Peter is by far the best opponent he has ever faced, it would be another huge shock if he pulled it off, don't rule out a shock as Aguilera is a young improving fighter but this might just be too much to ask.

 Hernan Marquez v Richie Mepranum

DATE: 3/12/2010

VENUE: Gaylord Hotel, Grapevine, Texas, United States

PREDICTION: Hernan Marquez

imageMarquez has brought along well in his career so far, he is 27-0 but he spent much of his early career fighting very limited opponents, 18 of his oppoents have had negative records, but as of late he has fought a couple of better opponents but this is by far the toughest test he has had so far, Mepranum has only lost at the highest level, he is a tough but not a huge puncher. This will be a good test to see how good Marquez is, don't rule out a shock if he is not the prospect they all believe but I think he will come through this test and potentially is a big player in the division.

Anthony Peterson v Juan Ramon Cruz

DATE: 3/12/2010

VENUE: Gaylord Hotel, Grapevine, Texas, United States

PREDICTION: Anthony Peterson

imageWhat should be a very easy nights work for Peterson, Cruz has lost everytime he has stepped up in class and has been stopped by fighters who are on a much lower level than Peterson look for a early to mid round stoppage for Peterson.

 Dennis Laurente v Ben Tackie

DATE: 3/12/2010

VENUE: Gaylord Hotel, Grapevine, Texas, United States

PREDICTION: Dennis Laurente

imageLaurente is quickly establishing himself as one of the top guys in the division, Tackie will be potentially the best opponent he has faced to date, Tackie has been in with some of the best fighters in the division for the last decade, Kostya Tszyu, Ricky Hatton, and Kendall Holt among others and has never been stopped and always gives a great account of himself, he has lost his last 5 fights but they have been fairly close, although his last fight he looked a little worn, Laurente has won his last ten, Tackie might give him a few shocks but Laurente should win on the cards.
