Antonio Margarito v Miguel Cotto

As both men make there way to the ring, this clash is being dubbed as the fight of the year. Cotto the WBA champion against the IBF champion Margarito.

Margarito walks out to the ring first looking calm and relaxed. Cotto follows looking focused. We are moments away from this one getting underway.

Micheal Buffer introduces the fighters, and Kenny Bayliss the referee of the contest issues his final instructions to the fighters, here we go.

Round 1

The bell rings and neither man rushes out, both try to work behind there jabs in the opening minute of the round. Cotto is landing the more accurate shots rocking Margarito's head back with sharp short shots. Margarito is looking to land the left upper cut and comes close a number of times. Good opening round from Cotto who boxes an almost perfect round.

Round 2

The 2nd round starts as the first round finished, Cotto lands a decent right hand. Margarito is trying to push forward but Cotto is countering well and is still throwing the more accurate shots. This fight is now warming up as the pair exchange big shots. A great round Cotto takes another round.

Round 3

Once again Cotto is boxing off the back foot but he continues to land at will on the head of Margarito. Margarito comes back with some good shots, but Cotto comes on strong again and is mixing his punches up well, great left hook from Cotto. Margarito is warned for low blows, Cotto by far the most accurate of the two fighters and takes another round.

Round 4

Slow start to the 4th, Cotto is controlling the pace of the fight as their isn't much coming from Margarito in the opening minute. Margarito starts coming on strong but Cotto is blocking well and is still counter punching with precise accuracy. A closer round but Cotto landed the better shots and take the round.

Round 5

Cotto starts the action in this round but Margarito is still coming forward and his work rate is higher than Cotto in this round. Cotto is still the more accurate of the two but his work rate has dropped a little. A much closer round to score but Margarito may have just stolen his first round.

Round 6

A good start to the round from Cotto who lands 5-6 unanswered punches. Cotto is working well on the inside and Margarito is still the man coming forward but Cotto is boxing beautifully and he stands and trades when he needs to and then moves away forcing Margarito to chase. Two big shots from Cotto to end the round and he pulls further ahead.

Round 7

A better start to the round from Margarito who pins Cotto in the corner he unleases with 4 uppercuts and Cotto is hurt. Cotto looks in trouble for the first time in this fight and Cotto looks on unsteady legs. Cotto fights back bravely but a big round for Margarito.

Round 8

Cotto's legs seemed to have recovered well from the previous round and is moving well again. Margarito is not allowing him a moments rest though and continues to press him for every second of the round. Cotto is landing the better shots in this round though. Good left hook from Cotto but Margarito is proving he has an iron chin. Another good round but Cotto just stole it with the more accurate shots.

Round 9

Margarito comes forward and throws almost none stop punches. Cotto is the more accurate of the two but Margarito's constant pressure and higher work rate must be catching the eyes of the judges. Less and less coming from Cotto who looks to be tiring, but his shots are the more accurate and harder there just wasn't enough of them to take this round. Margarito takes the round.

Round 10

Better start to the round from Margarito but Cotto ups his work rate and starts once again landing with hard accurate shots. Margarito's chin is incredible the shots he is taking and they are having no effect on him whatsoever. Cotto is landing at will in this round, but suddenly Margarito lands a right upper cut and Cotto's legs stiffen. It was a good round for Cotto up until that point, but Margarito may have evened the round up.

Round 11

A great round for margarito he pushes Cotto back and lands another big shot Cotto is in desperate trouble. He takes a couple more big shots and he takes a knee. Cotto is in desperate trouble, the uppercuts from Margarito are getting through Cotto is cut and badly hurt. Margarito presses Cotto further and Cotto takes another knee, this one could be over. Cotto gets back to his feet but this one looks over, the referee takes a long look at Cotto and waives off the contest. Margarito is the winner by TKO in the 11th round.
