VIEW FROM THE ROPES - Part 1

Author: Chris Akers

image THE SUPER SIX SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT TOURNAMENT STARTED RECENTLY WITH CARL FROCH VS ANDRE DIRRELL & ARTHUR ABRAHAM VS JERMAIN TAYLOR. IF THERE WAS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AN SIMILAR TOURNAMENT IN WOMEN'S BOXING:

1) WHICH WEIGHT DIVISION DO YOU THINK IT SHOULD OCCUR IN AND WHY?

2) WHICH FIGHTERS WOULD DO YOU THINK SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE TOURNAMENT AND WHY?

JANE COUCH MBE

Light welter is the only division in womens boxing. There are so many more girls making the division competive right now. It could be [Ann Sophie] Mathis, [Myriam] Lamare, [Ann Marie} Saccurato, [Holly] Holm, [Terri] Blair and [Molly] McConnell. If a few came out of retirement you could include me [Lucia] Rikjer, [Christy] martin, [Sumya] Anani, [Jamie] Clampitt and [Belinda]Laracuente. Now that would have been a good laugh

JULIETTE ANNE WINTER

JCs right about the past talent in that category. It would be a fantastic public display of womens boxing to get those names together. Personally I would love to see open tournamemts across the weights. How else will we get the opportunities to box the best in our categories without promoters and the dollar getting to decide who does and doesn't get to box who. If it would convince the only current UK registered pro at my weight on home ground to get in there with me, then great.

MELISSA HERNANDEZ

Light welter. Not to be a loud mouth but 122-140 are the best out there. And I truly believe that, with me being the best female in the world pound for pound.

JANE COUCH MBE

Juliette is right. She is the best in her weight and is like me will travel anywhere and fight anyone. For Juliette's talent to be realise, she would have to compete with the best in the world as no-one in the UK has got her attitude. That's why they won't fight her. Yet she could go up against the best in the world and hold her own. Believe me this girl can fight

SUZANNE HELMSLEY

I think either Light Welter or Featherweight would be the best as you have some great girls there. In fact anywhere between 130-140lbs would be good. It would have to be marketed right but think it could be a success. I would love to give it a go if I was good enough. In the UK you got Lyndsey Scragg, [Jane] Couch, [Kristine] Shergold,[Angel] Mckenzie, me and [Laura] Saperstein all in that bracket and then in Europe and the US there are loads of good girls.
